Amanda Nunes Reportedly Splits from ATT

Brazilian news site Combate reported that reigning UFC Womenโ€™s Featherweight and former Bantamweight champion, Amanda Nunes decided to leave American Top Team, which has been her gym for the past seven years.ย

โ€˜The Lionessโ€™, 33, ended her relationship with one of the most renowned gyms after losing her bantamweight championship belt to Julianna Pena at UFC 269. The loss came as a big upset as Nunes not only taped out to rear naked choke but also was her first defeat since UFC 178 in September 2014, when she lost by a TKO to Cat Zingano. Until then she was training in the MMA Masters gym in Miami, Florida.ย

The aforementioned loss to Zingano motivated Nunes to join ATT, which was her first step on the road to two-divisional champion status. After crossing the doorstep of Dan Lambertโ€™s gym in Coconut Creek, Florida,ย  Nunes stacked up a 12 fight winning streak, including victories over who is who of womenโ€™s MMA: Cris Cyborg, Ronda Rousey, Valentina Shevchenko, and Holly Holm, grabbing both featherweight and bantamweight title belts in the process.ย

It looks like her title loss to Pena gave Nunes an idea to change her surroundings. According to Combateโ€™s report, she will fund her own gym, which still will be located in Florida. This is the second loss of a top UFC caliber fighter for the American Top Team after Colby Covington left due to inappropriate conduct. As for Nunes, she targets a rematch โ€˜Venezuelan Vixenโ€™ in the near future.
