Central Texas UFC fighter Hailey Cowan ready to get back in the octagon after a year of setbacks

WACO, Texas (KWTX) – Central Texas’ only female UFC fighter in history finally has her next fight scheduled after a year of disappointments which included canceled fights, sickness and injury.

Hailey Cowan, 32, has only fought once since earning her UFC contract in August of 2022 but her next fight is finally within sight announced for May.

“I am full of gratitude,” Cowan told KWTX. “What a blessing to get back in there and do what I love to do.”

Cowan’s road back to the UFC Octagon has been anything but easy.

After earning her UFC contract with a win in Dana White’s Contender Series in 2022, Cowan was set to have her debut fight in February 2023 in Las Vegas.

That all came to a screeching halt after Cowan was hospitalized in Vegas with an ovarian cyst that ruptured just hours before the competition.

At the time, Cowan posted to social media saying “I can’t help but feel like I let everyone down. I did everything I could to fight but I have to listen to the doctors and to my team on this one.”

Cowan returned to Texas where she wasted no time getting back to training at Blitz Sport MMA & Fitness in Robinson.

A fight scheduled for the following month was then canceled as her opponent fell ill the day before the fight.

In April 2023, Cowan finally made her UFC debut and despite winning the entire statistic count, strikes, take downs and control time, the judges awarded her opponent the victory.

Cowan would then train for a scheduled fight in Paris, France, but tore her UCL in her elbow during training.

Since that time, Cowan has been fighting to get back.

“2023 was a really hard year, plagued with fights falling through, and then I got a really nasty injury and I’m super excited to announce that I’m healthy and I’m fighting May 18th,” Cowan said.

Cowan will face opponent Tamires Vidal on May 18th but a location has yet to be determined.

“I can’t wait to put a show on for y’all,” Cowan said. “It’ll be fun.”
