Jake Collier looks to put behind recent decision loss

LAS VEGAS – Jake Collier is ready to turn the page.

The UFC heavyweight wants to put his split-decision loss to Carlos Felipe back at UFC 263 in July 2021 by picking up a win this weekend. Collier (12-6 MMA, 4-5 UFC) takes on fellow heavyweight Chase Sherman in the main card of Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 32.

Collier left his bout with Felipe with a sour taste in his mouth, as he felt he had done enough to earn the win.

“You knock me out or submit me, hey, man, I’ll shake your hand,” Collier said at the UFC on ESPN 32 media day. “But I wasn’t the one bleeding with a big gash in the face. I threw like almost 300 strikes in that fight. For a heavyweight that’s crazy. I think they said I threw 111 strikes in the third round and I lost. It was frustrating, but it’s part of the sport.”

Collier is excited about the showdown against Sherman. Not having to worry about a big takedown thereat from Sherman, as he has mainly a striking style, has him looking forward to the fight.

“I’m excited because I don’t have to worry about Chase shooting on me or taking me down,” Collier said. “I think honestly that’s what they match us up, because we’re going to put on a show. We both like to stand and trade. We’re both tall, big guys. I think the matchup great for me. I think I have a little more tools in the bag than Chase.”
