Jorge Masvidal-Colby Covington to headline UFC 272 in March: Reports

Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington will fight in a welterweight bout to headline UFC 272 on March 5 in Las Vegas, according to multiple reports. The non-title fight will replace Alexander Volkanovski’s featherweight title defense and a bantamweight championship between Aljamain Sterling and Petr Yan, both of which have been moved to UFC 273 in April.

Masvidal (35-15) is coming off back-to-back losses to division champion Kamaru Usman but won his three previous fights. Covington (16-3) has won eight of his last 10 bouts, the lone defeats also to Usman.

Both fighters have a history together outside the cage.

Masvidal and Covington previously trained together at American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Fla. and were close friends, though they’ve since had a falling out. Covington now trains in Miami at MMA Masters. The two have publicly traded insults on social media over the last few years and have been calling for this fight to be made.
