Why Ciryl Gane is favored vs. Francis Ngannou plus Moreno-Figueiredo, Topuria-Jourdain – The Athletic

Hello friends and welcome back to the glorious world of mixed martial arts!

I hope you all had a happy holiday season and are ready to dive into the upcoming UFC 270 card, headlined by the heavyweight championship bout between Francis Ngannou and Ciryl Gane.

First and foremost, I have been asked to return to The Athletic to cover UFC events in 2022, and I have your support to thank for that. By reading and commenting on my articles, you’ve let the powers that be know how strong this community is, and I’m going to do my best to reward you for that by writing as frequently as possible over the course of the year.

If you’re ever curious about my schedule, or are looking for extra UFC fantasy and gambling content, feel free to follow me on Twitter, or check out my breakdowns and podcasts on my site DailyFanMMA.

Without further ado, let’s talk about a few of my favorite matchups from UFC 270, which include the heavyweight and flyweight championships.

    Francis Ngannou vs. Ciryl Gane

If I had to rank my favorite divisions personally, the heavyweight division would be toward the bottom of that list, as I’ve described in the past. It is incredibly difficult to handicap most heavyweight fights because there is a level of variance that simply does not exist in lighter divisions. While one punch can change the dynamic of an entire fight, the power that exists at heavyweight is unmatched.
